Railway Projects in Gujarat:On 25th August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gujarat and dedicated Railway Projects worth more than ₹1400 crore to the nation. These projects are giving a major boost to North Gujarat by improving rail connectivity, creating jobs, and supporting industrial growth.
New Passenger Train Between Kadi–Katosan Road and Sabarmati
The launch of a new passenger train between Kadi–Katosan Road and Sabarmati will provide better access to religious destinations. This initiative will benefit daily commuters, boost tourism and encourage economic activities at the local level.
Districts That Will Benefit from Railway Projects in Gujarat
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, these projects will particularly benefit the districts of
- Mehsana
- Patan
- Banaskantha
- Gandhinagar
- Ahmedabad
The release also mentioned that these Railway Projects in Gujarat will play a major role in strengthening regional connectivity, improving logistics efficiency, and creating new job opportunities.
Major Railway Projects Announced
Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the following key projects to the nation:
- Doubling of the Mahesana–Palanpur rail line (65 km) at a cost of ₹537 crore
- Gauge conversion of the Kalol–Kadi–Katosan Road rail line (37 km) at a cost of ₹347 crore
- Gauge conversion of the Becharaji–Ranuj rail line (40 km) at a cost of ₹520 crore
These projects will provide safe, smooth and seamless connectivity through broad gauge lines, especially for North Gujarat districts like Mehsana, Banaskantha, and Patan.

Faster Connectivity on Ahmedabad–Delhi Route
With the increased line capacity, trains on the Ahmedabad–Delhi route will operate at higher speeds. This will allow more passenger trains to run and also improve the efficiency of freight trains. As a result, Gujarat’s economic activities will receive new momentum, travel for commuters, tourists, and business communities will become easier, and regional economic integration will be strengthened.
Becharaji–Ranuj Gauge Conversion under National Logistics Policy
The Becharaji–Ranuj rail line gauge conversion has been carried out under the National Logistics Policy and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Multimodal Connectivity. The aim is to reduce logistics costs and further improve Gujarat’s ranking in the Logistics Performance Index.
This initiative by PM Modi is expected to accelerate the socio-economic progress of North Gujarat and establish a new benchmark in India’s logistics and railway sector.
Launch of New Train and Goods Service
Apart from these projects, PM Modi will also flag off a new passenger train between Kadi–Katosan Road and Sabarmati and a car-loaded goods train service from Becharaji.
- The passenger train will improve access to religious and tourist destinations and support local businesses.
- The car-loaded goods train will provide strong industrial connectivity, expand Gujarat’s logistics network, and create new job opportunities.
